Instructions for logging into GIL-Find and general instructions for tagging are at the bottom of this post.
GRADE, READING, AND AGE LEVELS
Look inside the front cover of the book for a label with the reading or age levels. Tag for all grades or ages within the range, referring to these examples:

Kindergarten
"Age 8"
"Age 5 up"
If there is no label inside and it's obviously skewed to teens, use

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOGGING IN AND TAGGING IN GIL-FIND
To log in at GIL-Find, click on "My Account" and use:
- VSU ID barcode: C8701
- name: Catalog1
- PIN: tag340
- Search GIL-Find for the title in hand
- Find the note in the catalog record for the name of the award or list honoring that book (i.e., School Library Journal Best Books, 2010). Find the tag for it in the list above (i.e., "SLJ Best Books").
- Find the note in the catalog record that gives reading grade or age ranges, like "Grade 6-8" or "Ages 10-13."
- Under the description of the book, where it says "No Tags, be the first to tag this record!" click on the little green button that says, "+Add."
- Type in Award (all award-winning kids' books get the tag Award)
- Enter the tag from the above list for the award the book won (you can copy and paste it-- be sure to include the quotation marks).
- Enter all the applicable reading grade or age levels, one by one. Use quotation marks around each (for an example see http://gilfind.valdosta.edu/vufind/Record/656295). Note that each grade level is entered separately.
- As an example, if your grade range is something like Preschool-Grade 3, your tags will be: Preschool Kindergarten "Grade 1" "Grade 2" "Grade 3"
If there is no age or grade note, the book is probably a Young Adult book and you can use the tag "Young Adult"
